THE REVENGE OF ROB ZOMBIE MUCH MAYHEM, NO COMPROMISE IN ROCKER'S SECOND MOVIE.

Byline: Phillip Zonkel Staff Writer

DESPITE HAVING a name that represents flesh-eating ghouls, Rob Zombie A computer that has been covertly taken over in order to perform some nefarious task. ``It's my job to create an atmosphere on the set where actors don't feel uncomfortable,'' says the musician-director. ``Acting is all about opening up. If actors feel comfortable and safe, they will go wherever you want them to.''

Q: It's been said that you don't cater to a teen horror audience. Why not?

A: There's the trend with every movie, not just horror movies, in catering to teens. Anyone over the age of 25 is too old to be in a movie. ... I was a kid once. I didn't feel that way. I had no problem watching Clint Eastwood. I didn't watch ``The Good, the Bad and the Ugly'' and go, ``Look at that old man. Why don't they put a kid in there?'' It's a weird thing, and it's hurting movies.

Q: After ``House of 1000 Corpses'' was a hit, Lions Gate asked you to make a sequel. Were you resistant?

A: Sequels are a disturbing new trend where nothing can end. But at the same time, it's really, really hard to get movies made, to get movies funded. Lions Gate wanted to do a sequel. Of course, I wasn't going to turn it down - but at the same time, I wanted to make it as much its own film as possible and vary from the look and tone of the first film. To me, the first film is ``Mad Max,'' and this one's ``The Road Warrior A person who frequently travels with laptop and cellphone. .''

Q: Your films have a lot of horrific scenes. How do you know when you've crossed a line?

A: I'll take everything as far as I can if I still think it's beneficial to the movie and you're still making art. But when it turns into pure exploitation for exploitation, that's where I'd stop. ... Nothing is for shock value as long as it serves the story.

Q: How do you work with an actor who's uncomfortable with something?

A: To me, it's all about the film. It's not about your feelings. It's not about your personal sense of right or wrong. It's about making this film great. If you're not here for that reason, you shouldn't be here.

Q: You've talked about ``making art'' with ``The Devil's Rejects.'' Do you think some people will chuckle at that idea?

A: People that are idiots. It's not a slasher film

. It's barely a horror movie. There are horrific moments, but it's like watching a Sam Peckinpah Western. People that chuckle are people who don't create things. They don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

what that means. ... Everything is art. Movies, music, television, kids' finger-painting - it's art. What else is a movie? Whether it's art you approve of or you like, that's where the discussion lies, not whether it is or isn't.

Q: Do you see yourself getting more into film and away from music?

A: Yeah, without a doubt. I'm very excited about it. I've been doing music for more than 20 years. I love movies, and that's what I want to do.

Q: Do you see horror films as the style you want to continue making?

A: No, I want to do all kinds of things. I have something that ... I don't like calling it a black comedy. I said it jokingly but also seriously - it's sort of like ``Ghostworld'' by way of ``Taxi Driver taxi driver ntaxista m/f

.'' It's not remotely close to a horror movie.
