THE PUNCH LINE CANYON'S FRONT SEVEN A FORCE.

Byline: ERIK BOAL Special to the Daily News

Listening to Nick Peterson assess the performance of Canyon High of Canyon Country's offensive line in last week's Southern Section Northern Division semifinal game, one might think the Cowboys cowboys, in American history.

1 Tory marauders, adherents to the British cause in the American Revolution, who fought in the contested area of Westchester co., N.Y.
were dominated up front by host Westlake.

``In my opinion, we didn't play our best game,'' said Peterson, Canyon's senior center.

``We could've communicated better on some plays and we could've done a better job with some of our blocking assignments.''

Such criticism came following a 42-7 victory over the Warriors, in which quarterback Ben Longshore long·shore

wasn't sacked and running back J.J. DiLuigi rushed for four touchdowns and 202 yards.

``We're far from a perfect group, but we try to be one,'' said junior left guard A.J. Wallerstein, who will make his 27th consecutive start when Canyon (10-2) plays Moorpark (11-2) at 4 p.m. today in the division final at Home Depot The Home Depot (NYSE: HD) is an American retailer of home improvement and construction products and services.

Headquartered in Vinings, just outside Atlanta in unincorporated Cobb County, Georgia, Home Depot employs more than 355,000 people and operates 2,164 big-box

``We always strive to be the best group out there.''

Canyon won't get any arguments from the players at Royal of Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969. , Rio Mesa of Oxnard and Westlake. The Cowboys have outscored opponents by an average of 52.3 points per game during their run to Saturday's championship game, the program's sixth appearance in a division final.

``(The line) is better than it was last year, and it was pretty good last year,'' said Canyon coach Harry Welch Welch , William Henry 1850-1934.

``They've built a relationship among themselves, but it's not a clique (mathematics) clique - A maximal totally connected subgraph. Given a graph with nodes N, a clique C is a subset of N where every node in C is directly connected to every other node in C (i.e. C is totally connected), and C contains all such nodes (C is maximal). . They're more than willing to let you play with them, but you better be ready to play.''

Although Canyon has had stability on the left side throughout the season with tackle Marc Valdez and Wallerstein lining up next to Peterson, the Cowboys have been forced to rotate players on the right side to compensate for injuries to senior Nick Madia and junior Justin Wallace. Senior Michael Blanco Blanco (meaning the color white in Spanish) is an adjective often used in Spanish surnames.

``Losing Madia wouldn't have been good if those guys weren't ready to step in like they have,'' said Welch, whose team defeated Moorpark 33-14 on Aug. 31.

``Blanco's been playing like a man and Mestizo is getting better and better every day.''

Peterson knows he and his teammates will need to be nearly flawless today to win the battle in the trenches against an equally talented line corps at Moorpark, featuring Kyle Rainer, Pat Carter Pat Carter was an American football player, active from 1988 to 1998. ``We gave up more sacks in that game than we did in all of league play,'' said Peterson, a returning All-Foothill League first-team selection.

``We have to prove something. We can't give up six sacks and be respected as a strong offensive line.''

Said Halamandaris, who has opened several holes for junior running back Darrell Scott For Darrell Scott, the "Rachel's Challenge" founder of this name, see .

Just like last season against Hart, Wallerstein expects his teammates to be ready for the challenge.

``It really helps that we've been there before,'' he said. ``I feel very confident with all the people around me.''
