THE PAPER TRAIL TO COLLEGE EVENT HELPS STUDENTS, PARENTS USE AID FORMS TO FIND EDUCATION FUNDS.

With rising state college and university fees coming this fall, prospective college students and their parents learned Saturday how to fill out the lengthy financial aid applications needed to secure scholarships and loans.

 the L.A. Free Cash for College Day, the event posted financial aid experts at 16 schools around the city to provide one-on-one help in filling out forms.

Most families need some kind of help paying the bill.

``It's $20,000 per year in fees,'' said Reseda High student Sanghamitra Pottam, 18, who wants to attend the University of California, Los Angeles UCLA comprises the College of Letters and Science (the primary undergraduate college), seven professional schools, and five professional Health Science schools. Fees at community colleges are also on the rise, from $18 a credit hour to $26 a credit hour - a 44 percent increase.
