THE PALACE CONTINUES STRING OF TOP NATIONAL HONORS BY WINNING PERFORMANCE'S 'ARENA OF THE YEAR' FOR THE FOURTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Adding to its unprecedented streak of national honors from Performance magazine, The Palace of Auburn Hills has won the publication's prestigious Readers Poll "Arena of the Year" award for the fourth consecutive year after being named "Best New Venue" in 1988.
In January, Pollstar, another top entertainment trade magazine, named The Palace "Arena of the Year" and selected Tom Trzos, vice president of facility administration and booking for The Palace and Pine Knob Music Theatre, "Talent Buyer of the Year," for 1992.
Representatives from Performance, a leading national entertainment industry publication, will formally announce The Palace's 1992 "Arena of the Year" award at the magazine's annual Readers Poll Award Show in Orlando, Fla., on Feb. 21.
For 17 years, the Performance Readers Poll, which represents professionals from all facets of the concert industry, has recognized the year's top venues. A select nominating committee, comprised of industry experts, placed The Palace on the ballot.
"Receiving 'Arena of the Year' for four consecutive years is a tremendous achievement for the building and all of our employees," said Tom Wilson, president of The Palace, Pine Knob and Detroit Pistons. "It's extremely rewarding when your efforts are recognized by those in the entertainment industry. The honors attest to our ability to maintain the high standards we established when we first opened our doors."
Other Performance finalists for 1992 "Arena of the Year" for venues with seating capacities of 20,000 and above were the Charlotte Coliseum (NC), Meadowlands Arena (NJ), Tacoma Dome (WA) and the Target Center (MN).
Pine Knob ("Amphitheater of the Year") and Trzos ("Facility Manager of the Year") also received Readers Poll nominations for 1992. Pine Knob's nomination marks the second consecutive year that the venue has been considered for top Performance honors. In 1991, the 20-year-old facility received its first-ever "Amphitheater of the Year" nomination in its first season under management of The Palace.
The Palace and Pine Knob Music Theatre are owned and operated by Arena Associates, Inc., consisting of partners William Davidson, Robert Sosnick and David Hermelin. The Palace hosts approximately 175 events annually and has attracted more than 10 million guests to date. In 1991 and 1992, Pine Knob hosted 163 total events and drew more than 1.2 million guests.
