THE MATHWORKS SHIPS MATLAB VERSION 4.0 FOR SUN SPARCSTATION SYSTEMS; MATLAB 4.0 ON THE SPARCSTATION OFFERS UNPRECEDENTED POWER & PERFORMANCE
NATICK, Mass., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The MathWorks Inc. today announced the shipment of MATLAB(R) Version 4.0 for Sun SPARCstations systems. MATLAB 4.0 has considerable new functionality including object-oriented graphics, sparse matrix support, sound output and graphical user interface controls, as well as additional capabilities that together make MATLAB the most powerful technical computing environment available.
This combination of hardware and software vastly expands the usefulness of scientific visualization and the ability of scientists, engineers and mathematicians and other technical professionals to quickly visualize and explore data and mathematical models.
MATLAB merges the industry's most powerful and accurate numerical computation software, an easy-to-use fourth generation programming language, outstanding graphics capabilities, and an extensive family of application-specific toolboxes for solving a wide range of problems.
This unique combination allows users to analyze and visualize data; prototype, analyze and optimize engineering system designs and algorithms; and explore new concepts in scientific research. It also enables them to create mathematical models and solve systems of equations and perform general engineering and scientific computations -- all without leaving the MATLAB environment.
John N. Little, the Mathworks' president and chief executive officer, said, "This release of MATLAB merges serious numeric computation software with advanced graphics capabilities to bring scientific visualization to a new level. MATLAB's extensive functionality combined with the SPARCstation's power provides an integrated environment for analysis, design, and modeling unparalleled in its ability to help Sun users analyze and interpret their data."
"We are excited to see MATLAB Version 4.0 running on Sun SPARCstation systems," said Michael M. Ajdalany, group manager, education and research market development for Sun Microsystems Computer Corp. "This software is a strategic fit with Sun's emphasis on technical markets including engineering and physical sciences." Configuration, Pricing, Availability
Prices for MATLAB v. 4.0 on the Sun SPARCstation systems start at $2,995 for a single-seat license in the U.S. (call for international pricing), and quantity and education discounts are available. MATLAB 4.0 also will ship under the X Windows System on Workstations including the HP9000/300, 400 and 700; IBM RS/6000; DEC RISC under ULTIRX; and the Silicon Graphics workstation family. MATLAB can be networked in heterogeneous environments, enabling users to share data files and user written functions across platforms without converting or recompiling. MATLAB's multiplatform interoperability protects users' hardware/software investments and provides a powerful foundation for future technical computing growth.
