THE MASTER'S NOTEBOOK MUSTANGS CLOSER AFTER PILGRIMAGE.

VALENCIA - Yes, there was some basketball played, but The Master's College History
The Master's College was founded as Los Angeles Baptist Theological Seminary on May 25, 1927 to meet the need for a fundamental Baptist school on the West Coast.

The Mustangs spent 17 days in Israel last May, a pilgrimage to the Holy Land that further bonded an already tight-knit basketball team.

``We spent every moment together, and that's naturally going to bring you closer together,'' sophomore forward Lesley DuBois said Thursday a women's basketball media luncheon.

The trip included games against Israeli club teams and the country's junior national squad. But Mustangs coach Ken Sugarman and the players will remember the off-court experience.

The players had a spiritual rush in visiting Jerusalem, the Sea of Galilee The Sea of Galilee or Lake Kinneret (Hebrew ים כנרת), is Israel's largest freshwater lake. It is approximately 53 km (33 miles) in circumference, about 21 km (13 miles) long, and 13 km (8 miles) wide; it has a total area of 166  and most of the country's religious and historical landmarks.

``(In Jerusalem), it was like you were back in the time,'' DuBois said. ``To put yourself back in time was Jerusalem.''

The players also earned credits. A school professor, Dr. William Varner, taught a geography-osrael class and accompanied the team on the trip.

``When you spend 17 days, 24 hours a day with each other, traveling to a foreign country where you're being exposed to a lot of things that you've never been exposed to . . . was great for us,'' said Sugarman, entering his sixth season at The Master's.

``When we came back in the fall, it was really evident that this group was ready to be a tight group and to work hard together. And be on the same page.''

The Mustangs went 16-15 last season but are hungry to make a dramatic improvement on that win total. DuBois was an honorable mention NAIA NAIA

arrow!Rickard's boot camp: The Mustangs' men's soccer team, No. 25 in the latest NAIA poll, will have plenty of time to prepare for the Region II playoffs that begin on Oct. 31.

The Mustangs' last match was a week ago against Christian Heritage. They host U.S. International University on Saturday and finish the regular season against visiting Chapman on Wednesday.

Coach Jim Rickard is concerned about playing only three matches in 14 days, though it will allow plenty of time to rest and/or practice.

``We just couldn't get any games. Those no independents now to play us,'' Rickard said.

After last Thursday's 2-1 win at Christian Heritage, Rickard gave his team a couple days off but planned to make the most of this week off.

``I'm not sure how it's going to work out. I know this week we're going to work extra hard,'' junior goalkeeper Eric Pattison said.

``It's almost going to be like another preseason, and going into playoffs we'll be in tip-top shape. But I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)
