DeVries was known as Kelly Cornell her first three years playing for the Mustangs. She married former Master's men's basketball guard Brett DeVries last year. But getting hitched became less stressful than the alternative.

``Not really,'' DeVries said when asked whether her lifestyle, including the Mustangs' impending im·pend

``It just hasn't been that hard. I guess we don't spend as much time as normal married people do. But it's more than when we were dating because now we live together. So it wasn't like, `Hey, good night, I'll see you later.' ''

The women's basketball Women's basketball is one of the few games which developed in tandem with men's. It became popular, spreading from the east coast of the United States to the west coast, in large part via women's colleges.  team is accustomed to the domestic life. Jorden Whittington, who finished her standout career last season, was married as well. But like Brett DeVries, her husband was a former athlete at The Master's.

``Both of their husbands have been really supportive and understanding,'' Mustangs coach Ken Sugarman said. ``They were both (telling them) to have that college experience and be able to spend time with their teammates and enjoy everything that has gone with that.''

DeVries has made the most of it. She's started all 31 games and, along with fellow senior Lesley DuBois, shares the school record for career games played Games played (most often abbreviated as G or GP) is a statistic used in team sports to indicate the total number of games in which a player has participated (in any capacity); the statistic is generally applied irrespective of whatever portion of the game is contested.  at 124. DeVries is also the career leader in steals (352) and is third in assists (376). As a senior, she's made a team-high 81 steals and averages 7.3 points.

``I think she's really grown up in her four years here,'' Sugarman said.

Brett DeVries faced a difficult decision at the end of his junior season of basketball. He was set to graduate and opted not to use his final season of eligibility. But now he has Mrs. DeVries to root for when the Mustangs face Pikeville (Ky.) in Thursday's 12:15 p.m. first-round game in Jackson, Tenn.

``He went to the Pac-10 Tournament (last week), and when we got home he was like, `I want to play again next season,' '' Kelly DeVries said.

--Jackson experience: Only DeVries, DuBois, senior forward Andria Miller and junior guard Liz DeWaalMalefyt have tasted the atmosphere at the NAIA tournament, after the the Mustangs advanced in 2001.

But they've briefed their younger teammates about the Southern hospitality they'll enjoy and the distractions to shrug off. The team had to split into two flights to reach Nashville on Monday. Once reunited, a charter bus was to pick them up for the two-hour drive to Jackson. A banquet is scheduled for tonight, and all the teams will gather inside Oman Arena The Oman Arena is a 5,600-seat multi-purpose arena in Jackson, Tennessee, USA. It hosts locals sporting events and concerts. It was opened in 1964. Since 1990 it has hosted the NAIA Women's Division I National Championship Basketball Tournament.  for Wednesday's ``Parade of Champions.''

``Our plan is to get farther than we did (in 2001),'' DeWaalMalefyt said. ``You see all the fans there, and that's the excitement of being at the national tournament. It's what we've worked hard for all year. Here's our chance.''

At least Thursday's first-round game against Pikeville is a 2:15 p.m. local start. Two years ago, when Dillard (La.) upset them in round one, the Mustangs had to wait through seven games before theirs tipped off well after 10 p.m. CST CST

``I think that'll be way better. The anticipation of a 10 o'clock game gives you too much time to think,'' DuBois said. ``I'm the kind of player who doesn't even like warming up. I just want to go out and play. But we need to be ready for anything.''
