THE M/A/R/C GROUP AND GFK FORM ALLIANCE TO PROVIDE MARKETING
RESEARCH IN EUROPE AND NORTH AMERICA
DALLAS, March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The M/A/R/C Group (NASDAQ: MARC) of Dallas and GfK AG of Nuremberg, Germany, two leading marketing information firms, today announced the signing of an exchange agreement providing for the formation of a strategic alliance to offer custom research and related services to international clients.
Under the terms of the agreement, M/A/R/C and GfK will contract with each other for marketing research projects in their respective geographic areas and also will offer each other opportunities to share licenses, software and proprietary products.
The alliance between M/A/R/C and GfK is unique in its scope and represents the first cooperative agreement of its kind in the international custom research industry.
Sharon M. Munger, president of The M/A/R/C Group, said, "This is a dramatic development that will permit both companies to better serve major international clients, broaden the global markets for our research and ensure consistency and quality in research across borders.
"This agreement will help both GfK and M/A/R/C to achieve a stronger international position by enabling the two companies to jointly review key international customers, provide clients with internationally comparable market surveys and pool experience in the areas of research methods, technology and licensing," Munger continued.
Klaus Hehl, chairman of GfK said, "This cooperative agreement with M/A/R/C will bring international ad hoc capabilities to our European clients without losing our local strengths and contacts. We are looking forward to identifying products and technology which we can exchange.
"The new partnership with M/A/R/C also complements our current agreement with IRI of Chicago, Ill., under which we collect continuous sales measurement data from grocery store scanners," Hehl continued.
The M/A/R/C Group provides such services as custom marketing research, targeted database marketing, strategic marketing consulting and total quality management programs. Its revenues for the year ended Dec. 31, 1991, were over $71 million. M/A/R/C operates nine offices in the United States and Canada and serves many leading companies in the consumer products, pharmaceuticals, retailing, telecommunications and financial services industries.
GfK AG, based in Nuremberg, is a marketing information company primarily serving Western and Eastern Europe. It offers both ad hoc (custom) research and syndicated services in areas such as audience measurement and product movement. For the year ended Dec. 31, GfK reported revenues equivalent to approximately $200 million.
