THE LEGENDARY CARMEN AMAYA.


For many aficionados of flamenco flamenco, Spanish music and dance typical of the Gypsy, or gitano. Flamenco dancing is characterized by colorful costumes, intense and erotic movements, stamping of the feet (zapateado), and clapping of the hands (palmada , one name sums up the combination of deep feeling and control that marks the very best: Carmen Amaya Carmen Amaya (November 2, 1913 - November 19, 1963) was a flamenco dancer and singer, born in the Somorrostro slum of Barcelona, Catalonia. She danced from the time she was 7 years old. In 1929, she made her debut in Paris, to warm acclaims and admiration of her dancing skill.  (1913-1963). Her father took her to dance in Barcelona bars at the age of 4; her fiery performances launched a career that eventually found her touring the world with her own company. "The one word that describes my first impression of her is energy," wrote Teodoro Morca, himself a celebrated flamenco dancer, choreographer cho·re·o·graph
