THE LEARNING COMPANY(R) ACQUIRES HYPERGLOT, A FOREIGN LANGUAGE SOFTWARE COMPANY

 FREMONT, Calif., July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The Learning Company (NASDAQ: LRNG) reported today that it has acquired HyperGlot Software Company Inc. -- The Foreign Language Software Company(TM), a leading publisher of foreign-language learning software. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The acquisition is expected to be non- dilutive.

"HyperGlot has made excellent use of both floppy- based and CD-ROM technologies to produce a leading line of products in the growing field of foreign language learning. HyperGlot has created the type of quality product line we are eager to acquire. Their products complement our growing system of learning products," continued Dinsmore.

 HyperGlot develops and publishes foreign language software for CD-ROM and floppy-based computer platforms which include Windows/MPC, DOS and Macintosh. HyperGlot is best known for its complete courses which include the "Learn to Speak"(TM) series of products and the CD-ROM versions of "Berlitz(R) Think & Talk" series of products. The "Learn to Speak" series is available for English speakers who want to learn Spanish and French and for Spanish, French and Japanese speakers who want to learn English. The "Think & Talk" series is available for English speakers who want to learn Spanish, French, German or Italian.
 HyperGlot is located in Knoxville, Tenn. and its products are currently sold in the United States, Australia, Spain and Italy. The name of the company is derived from the combination of the prefix "hyper-" (from the Latin word for "above, beyond" or "super") and the Greek root word "glott-" (meaning "language").
