THE HYPE THE SPY BEFORE THE SPY WHO SHAGGED ME.

Shake up a vodka martini, treat yourself to some Zukovsky caviar, and create a James Bond evening while you peruse pe·ruse
tr.v. pe·rused, pe·rus·ing, pe·rus·es
To read or examine, typically with great care.

[Middle English perusen, to use up : Latin per-, per-
the new ``James Bond: The Secret World of 007'' (DK Publishing, London and New York New York, state, United States

; $19.95).

Targeted at kids but a must for all us serious Bond fans (and we all know who we are, don't we?), the book features a wealth of illustrations, diagrams, photos and designs from the 19 Bond films produced so far.

Taking the series from the beginning (pre-``Austin Powers,'' that is), it presents large-format (10 by 12 inches) peeks at various plot and character aspects of each movie, from 1962's ``Dr. No.'' to 1999's ``The World Is Not Enough.'' (The next film based on Ian Fleming's famous British agent is scheduled for release in 2002.) Included are all the fiendish villains, from Rosa Klebb to Blofeld, from Scaramanga to Drax.

Large, full-color renderings of villains' hideouts _ from Blofeld's much-parodied volcano lair to Elliot Carver's Stealth Ship A stealth ship is a ship which employs stealth technology construction techniques in an effort to ensure that it is harder to detect by one or more of radar, visual, sonar, and infrared methods.  _ feature cutaways showing other diabolical chambers and weapons. Bond's lengthy array of vehicles is documented, from ``You Only Live Twice's'' Little Nellie mini-helicopter to the Acrostar Mini-Jet in ``Octopussy,'' from the legendary Aston Martin Aston Martin Lagonda Limited is a British manufacturer of luxury performance cars, whose headquarters are at Gaydon, Warwickshire, England. The company name is derived from the Aston Clinton hill climb and one of the company's founders, Lionel Martin.  DB5 in ``Goldfinger'' to the prototype Q Boat in ``The World Is Not Enough.''

Plus there are dossiers on all of Bond's women (well, most of them _ there are only 144 pages, after all), from the hard-edged Pussy pus·sy

Containing or resembling pus.

Galore to the innocent Domino, from the dangerous Helga Brandt to the feisty Tracy di Vicenzo, whom Bond married, only to be widowed.

All this and more (exhaustive technical details, strict specifications, nuts-and-bolts explanations, cast and crew lists, production stats) is presented in scintillating scin·til·late

And never fear. Like the movies always promise in the end credits, ``James Bond Will Return.''
