THE HYPE SEARCHING UNDER EVERY STONE.

``I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.''

- Michelangelo

The simplicity of stones is intriguing. Stacked one atop another, stones can become a magnificent wall, such as the Great Wall of China. Yet, they can also create such mysterious structures as England's Stonehenge. Two recent books pay tribute to stones - both as pillars of strength and objects of art. ``In the Company of Stone: The Art of the Stone Wall'' (Artisan; $35) tells the story of a waller and his walls. Dan Snow builds walls of all shapes and sizes on the East Coast - all with dry stones. Together with photographer Peter Mauss, he has created a beautiful book worthy of any coffee table. If you've ever marveled at a stone wall stretching across the countryside, you will enjoy this book. However, building even a small stone wall on your own property would be tedious work. Linda Lee Linda Lee may refer to:
  • Linda Lee Cadwell - Wife of Bruce Lee and mother of Brandon Lee
  • Linda Lee - Import Car Model
  • Linda Lee, a Bishop of the United Methodist Church
  • Linda Lee Thomas - Wife of Cole Porter
Purvis' book ``Stone Style'' (Storey Books; $26.95) shows some simpler ways to bring the art of stone home. This brilliantly illustrated book offers step-by-step instruction for making everything from jewelry jewelry, personal adornments worn for ornament or utility, to show rank or wealth, or to follow superstitious custom or fashion.

The most universal forms of jewelry are the necklace, bracelet, ring, pin, and earring.
to clocks to lamps with ordinary stones. She shows how stones can become elegant vases or bowls as well as whimsical creatures and castles. She gives tips for working with tools such as chisels and drills, which are needed to complete some of the projects. However, some projects are as simple as tossing some stones in a bowl.
