THE HYPE NO MORE GREASY KID STUFF FOR OV7.

OV7 doesn't want to be pegged as a pop group that's here today, gone tomorrow.

The fact is that the seven guys and girls behind Mexico's hugely successful singing and dancing ensemble have been together for the past 12 years, selling out shows with their brand of kiddie kid·die or kid·dy

It makes extensive use of esoteric language and pop culture references from the late nineteenth century to 1955.  of adulthood, it's only natural for the group to want to grow musically and reach a wider audience. So the group will be performing as part of the Reventon Super Estrella concert lineup with Alejandra Guzman, Chayanne and El Chombo El Chombo, real name Rodney Clark, is an American-born Panamanian Reggaeton producer and artist. His major local hits under his own name include "Kung Fu" and "El Gato Volador". .

The concert, hosted by radio station KACD-FM (103.1), comes to the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim on Saturday.

While it's an important step in the group's ever-growing career - they were on hand for the Latin Grammy nominations - the biggest leap forward is expected to come on the group's next Sony Discos release.

The album is still in the works but will be the follow-up to last year's multimillion-selling debut album ``CDOO.'' ``CDOO'' was a youthful concoction of pop, r&b and hip-hop. The new album promises that and more, borrowing from the world rhythms of Africa, Europe and the Caribbean.

``We want the new album to be the kind of music that people all over the world want to hear,'' says Kalimba Kadjaly Marichal Ibar, one of the group's members. ``We want to go everywhere so that means we have to sound like everywhere.''

La Onda Vaselina was known for its remakes of hits from the 1950s and '60s. But Ibar says as he and his bandmates got older, they grew tired of performing kiddie pop songs.

``We can't keep singing kids songs because we're not kids anymore,'' says Ibar, 19. ``We're teen-agers now so we have to start singing like teen-agers.''

In order to do so, however, the group was forced to break ties with its management and change its name.

The group redubbed itself OV7, and soon began working on its debut album with new management.

After the album's release, it was only a matter of time before people started to recognize the group on the streets of such U.S. cities as Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , Houston, Miami and New York New York, state, United States

But if we want to feel that feeling again, we're going to have to keep changing. And that's why we think this next album is going to be so important to us.''

USA Home Entertainment says the tape includes interviews with Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant and coach Phil Jackson, as well as footage from inside the huddles and locker rooms and curbside at the Lakers' downtown victory parade.

It should make a nice companion piece to last year's championship video, also starring the Los Angeles Lakers. No doubt avid Lakers fans will save space in their tape cabinets for a third video after next season in the event of a ``threepeat.''
