THE HYPE HOW MANY BLONDES DOES IT TAKE?

``Keep those blond jokes comin'.''

That's what Regis Philbin Regis Francis Xavier Philbin (born August 25, 1931) is an Emmy Award-winning American television personality best known for his roles as a talk show host, game show host, singer and presenter at various events.  laughingly commanded Monday as he and his ``Live!'' crew had the Vidal Sassoon Vidal Sassoon (born January 17, 1928) is a hairdresser.

Marilyn Monroe aside, not everybody looks great as a blonde.

Others are still finding out if blondes have more fun, including former Dodger hunk Mike Piazza (now New York Mets

Talk about a case of ``illegally blond.''

Maybe it's something everybody's got to try just once. Cher did it for a recent CD jacket, Elizabeth Taylor did it as a teen for ``Little Women,'' and even several male cast members of TV's ``Diagnosis Murder'' have used peroxide before going back to their roots.

Meanwhile Madonna has been blond for so long, she's probably forgotten that she was once a brunette. Quite possibly, only her hairdresser knows for sure.

AGAINST ALL ODDS: ``MSNBC MSNBC Microsoft/National Broadcasting Company  Investigates: Saving Bella'' is an enthralling en·thrall

documentary in which a 2-year-old in need of liver and kidney transplants confronts Murphy's Law in all of its medical permutations - and still manages to survive.

The documentary focuses on the Huffman family - Danny and Rachel, a happily married couple, challenged by the severe illness of their 2-year- old, Bella. Danny donates a section of his liver and a kidney; the transplant doesn't seem to take - and then it does - and then it doesn't, and a new donor is needed immediately, or Bella could die.

Cameras follow the family members and Bella's doctors throughout the ordeal; it's almost impossible to imagine having to go through such wrenching psychological torment and more difficult to picture enduring this for the sake of TV. Were this an episode of ``ER,'' it'd be hooted off the screen for its relentless melodrama. But it's not. ``MSNBC Investigates: Saving Bella'' airs at 6 p.m. today on MSNBC.
