THE HYPE BLUEPRINTS FOR THE FUTURE L.A. EXHIBITS ILLUSTRATE FOUNDATIONS OF MODERN CITIES.


Two Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  museums are enticing architecture admirers to step through their doors and back to a time when great modern nations were rising.

Now on view at the Getty Center Getty Center, art museum complex in Brentwood, Calif. operated by the J. Paul Getty Trust. It consists of six buildings on 124 acres (50 hectares) located on a spectacular promontory overlooking Los Angeles.  is ``Shaping the Great City: Modern Architecture in Central Europe Central Europe is the region lying between the variously and vaguely defined areas of Eastern and Western Europe. In addition, Northern, Southern and Southeastern Europe may variously delimit or overlap into Central Europe. , 1890-1937,'' an exhibition of 350 architectural drawings, models, photographs, posters, books and film clips that demonstrate the origins and development of modern architecture in Europe after World War I. This exhibit continues through May 6.

 is the first major survey of the architecture of Vienna-born modernist R.M. Schindler, the mind behind some of the most innovative buildings of the century, including the Schindler-Chace House and Lovell Beach House in California. This exhibit includes more than 100 original drawings by Schindler, models of some of his most significant works, furniture and a full-scale re-creation of a beach house he designed for his projected A.E. Rose Beach Colony in 1937. The exhibit continues through June 3.

LIP LOCKERS: Teen heartthrobs 'N Sync left the Grammy Awards Grammy Awards

Annual awards given by the Recording Academy (officially the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences). The first Grammies (the name is a dimunitive of “gramophone”) were given in 1958.

Good thing the boys have a new product out this month that might just turn those frowns around. They've put their names and faces on a five- pack of lip balms, with a flavor for each fan. Lance Bass' picture is on Blue Raspberry; JC Chasez is a sweet Watermelon watermelon, plant (Citrullus vulgaris) of the family Curcurbitaceae (gourd family) native to Africa and introduced to America by Africans transported as slaves. Watermelons are now extensively cultivated in the United States and are popular also in S Russia.  flavor; Chris Kirkpatrick's choice is Strawberry, and Joey Fatone is a tart Green Apple. Don't like fruity flavors? Try Vanilla, the choice of Justin Timberlake.

The lip balms are available at numerous stores, including Claire's, the Limited and Wal-Mart, priced at 99 cents each or $4 for a pocket-size five-pack.

DAVE A file sharing program from Thursby Software Systems, Inc., Arlington, TX (www.thursby.com) that allows a Macintosh to share files with a PC. Designed specifically for and needing installation only on the Mac, DAVE works with Microsoft's native SMB/CIFS file sharing protocols and uses  IS BACK: Dave Matthews has seemingly been treading water since the release of his last album of new material, ``Crash,'' five years ago.

The long wait ends Tuesday when his fourth studio album, ``Everyday,'' hits stores. The disc, produced with Alanis Morissette collaborator Glen Ballard, contains a dozen short, radio-friendly originals. With a new album to promote, Matthews will hit the road for a tour of stadiums and amphitheaters. The caravan pulls into Los Angeles for a May 22 date at Dodger Stadium, with Macy Gray opening. Tickets go on sale next month.

Matthews, a South African native who developed his huge fan base with constant college tours, was the third-highest-grossing touring act of last year.
