THE HYPE ANGELS WE WILL VIEW ON HIGH.

A host of angels will begin their descent on the county of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Friday, masquerading as public works public works

Just where people will be able to see the ``A Community of Angels'' pieces - a public art event and fund-raiser for inner city children's programs - is still up in the air.

Project organizers say permits for five locations throughout the county have been cemented for Friday's landing. They are Old Town Pasadena Built on the foundation of one of the oldest, most beautiful and most prosperous cities in California, Old Pasadena arose from the ashes of a decaying bowery that had a well deserved patina of homeless and hippie.  and downtown at the Wilshire Grand Plaza, Pershing Square, Los Angeles Convention Visitor's Bureau and Cal Plaza.

Details of whether the angels will be placed indoors or outdoors is also unclear, although its likely most will go on the street or in plaza areas.

What is clear is that the San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

won't be seeing any heavenly bodies of its own for lack of sponsorship, says Cal Winslow, project director of ``A Community of Angels.'' Of course, that could change.

Sponsorships are still coming in, and range from $1,500 to $10,000. Non- profit organizations get the lesser rate, and must supply their own artist.

The ``A Community of Angels'' event kicked off in October. At that time, organizers had hoped to get enough sponsors to display 400 angels. So far, that hasn't happened.

Veterans of such events say not to worry.

Chicago dealt with lack of enthusiasm for its ``Cows on Parade'' at the start, too, says Nathan Mason, curator of special projects for the city of Chicago.

The target was for a minimum of 300 bovines. When the exhibit opened in the summer of 1999, 125 cows at most were placed on the streets and another 75 were yet unfinished.

Mason, many of the unfinished cows were unsponsored well into the first two weeks of the exhibit. But by the end of its summer run, there were about 322 cows on the streets.

``I guess a lot of people can't visualize,'' says Mason. ``So if L.A. hangs in there, it'll probably work out and they'll reach their target.''

At that time, proceeds from the sale will go toward youth organizations selected by the Volunteers of America Volunteers of America, national nondenominational organization providing a wide variety of human services as part of a Christian ministry of service. The project's already received substantial bids for Nechita's work, an amount Winslow refused to disclose. But he did hint that her paintings generally sell for $25,000 and up.

Nechita's angel is currently on exhibit at the Timothy Yarger Gallery in Beverly Hills Beverly Hills, city (1990 pop. 31,971), Los Angeles co., S Calif., completely surrounded by the city of Los Angeles; inc. 1914. It will remain there until a safe location is found, one that will spare it from the elements.

As for some of the angels you might see on the streets, they include the angel of peace creation by Beso Kazaishvili, a 14-year-old prodigy. And you might have seen Susi Galloway working on her ``Angelus Nocturnus'' at the Glendale Galleria over the holidays. ``Archetype archetype (är`kĭtīp') [Gr. arch=first, typos=mold], term whose earlier meaning, "original model," or "prototype," has been enlarged by C.
