THE HYPE A CENTURY OF FASHION, PART II.


Fashion is constantly changing, and so is the ``Century of Fashion, 1900-2000'' exhibit at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, also known as LACMA, is the official and world-renowned art museum of the County of Los Angeles, California, located on Wilshire Boulevard along Museum Row in the Miracle Mile vicinity of Los Angeles. .

The second of four installments in the ongoing exhibit is now on display and, like Part I, covers the entire century. It begins with examples of the rigid corsetry Corsetry is craft of making corsets and corset-like garments and accessories most of which incorporate stays. It is also a subfield of fashion that deals with those garments and accessories and it is common term used for those garments and accessories. Term derives from the word . , opulent textiles and lavish decoration that reflected the social status of a woman's father or husband, and then moves ahead to the flapper skirts of the '20s, military-inspired suits of the war years, circle skirts of the '50s and contemporary ``power'' suits.

This second collection includes the work of 130 designers, including Paul Poiret, Mariano Fortuny Mariano Fortuny is the name of:
  • Mariano Fortuny y Marsal. (1838-1874) Painter.
  • Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo (1871-1949) Designer. (son of Mariano Fortuny y Marsal).

The museum is located at 5905 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles. Admission is $7, $1 for students under 18, and free to children under 5. The second Tuesday of every month is free to all. For more information, call (323) 857-6000 or visit the Web site at www.lacma.org.
