In a Craftsman-style setting on a CCRC campus, this new building offers the solid cueing and services that contribute to a positive atmosphere, an enabling one for residents struggling with Alzheimer's and dementia. Divided into four distinct households, the facility differentiates similar layouts with multi-layered themes--the Lakeshore Cottage, the Garden, the Woodlands, and Country Americana. Credit the quad of ideas to a design team that listened to long-time Wisconsin residents, interpreting their visions of an authentic "adult habitat." It's a wonderfully effective way to make "my house" look different from "yours," a necessity in design for dementia. Households--1l suites each--include a foyer, living room, laundry room A laundry room (also called a utility room) is a room where clothes are washed. Corridors punctuated with interesting rest stops offer objects or activities for residents en route to shared lounges, recreational hubs, or the Wellness Center. Because corridors end in turnarounds or destination points, wanderers may gain an increased sense of purpose or arrival. Above all, The Harbour House design team committed itself to planning spaces flexible enough to allow programming and care changes as medical research offers advances in treating memory impairment. |
