THE FUN IN BEING FEARLESS.

MORE FUN and more fearless than any other award, the Cosmopolitan Fun Fearless Female Awards celebrate women from various spheres.

This year's award gala -- held in Mumbai on Friday -- had a spattering of famous, glamorous, accomplished and inspiring women and many exceptional men.

' Wear your attitude' was the theme for the evening, as the awards recognise attitude over achievement.

Singer Anushka Manchanda set the mood with her medley performance to kickstart the event and crooned classics such as I'm Every Woman and Simply Irresistible.

But Shah Rukh Khan stole the show with his rendition of Tujhe dekha toh yeh jaana sanam in a female voice. Why did SRK sing like that? The felicitation for Shah Rukh by Cosmopolitan mentioned how the magazine sometimes wished he was a woman, so they could put him on their cover. This prompted SRK to say that he was as good as any woman -- and thus warble in a female voice.

Among the winners was King Khan, who won the award for Fun Fearless Male Of All Time, Kareena Kapoor -- who skipped the event -- won the award for Fun Fearless Female Of All Time.

Shah Rukh was the biggest draw of the evening. He was at his usual charming, funny and suave best. He and the host, Cyrus Broacha, constantly sparred with each other, much to the amusement of the audience. On receiving the award, SRK quipped: " I feel shy about receiving the award because when I was leaving home my daughter said you're getting an award for being fearless, but you're so scared of mom." The reigning Bollywood queen, Katrina Kaif, bagged the Fun Fearless Female award. Dressed in a funky, short, thighskimming dress by Monisha Jaisingh, Kat was the perfect ambassador for the Cosmo woman. " The woman of today should have a conscience, be socially responsible, yet not be afraid to experiment and to enjoy life. She should live her dreams, be fearless, and go for what her heart tells her to." '

There were 16 awards in other categories.

Deepika Padukone -- who got the award in the Sexiest Female category -- looked the part in a sexy grey gown.

Cosmopolitan Awards recognise women from not just the glamour world, but also theatre, sports and writing. Badminton star Saina Nehwal, who won the award in the sports category, was away for a game and could not be a part of the awards night. The theatre category winner, Kalki Koechlin of Dev. D fame, was elated at winning.

The mood of the evening was fun and irreverent.

Broacha told Katrina how a few years ago when she entered the industry, cricketer Mohammad Kaif was the only Kaif India knew about. And now nobody knows Mohammad Kaif, while Kat was running India. Katrina could do nothing but blush.

Priyanka Chopra and Abhay Deol were recognised in the Best Male and Female Actors category. Deol, dressed in casual jeans and a slim tie, said: " Awards are a celebration and I love being a part of them." Rahul Bose said he had rarely seen such a profusion of hardworking, feisty, vulnerable and complex women together.

The winners were handed out a sexy diamante- studded stiletto as a statuette. SRK said he intends to keep his stiletto in his library, while Kalki said she would make sure she keeps dusting it to keep it sparkling.

Being fun and fearless does have its perks.
