 of Van Nuys overcame a mud-swamped field to record a 3-0 victory over visiting Verdugo Hills of Tujunga in a Sunset 6 League game.

The victory gave coach Marv Barsky's team sole possession of first place in league and improved its record to 14-1 (5-0 in league). The Dons fell to 8-3-1 (4-1 in league).

In other girls' soccer:

--Wolverines prevail: Host Harvard-Westlake of Studio City (10-1-4, 4-0) took control of the Mission League with a 2-1 victory over rival Louisville of Woodland Hills (11-4-1, 1-2). It was the Wolverines' second win over the Royals this season.

--Tayloring the team: Kim Taylor had five goals and three assists to lead host Chaminade of West Hills (12-4-2, 4-0) to a 9-0 rout of Alemany of Mission Hills (0-4 in league) in a Mission League game.

--Good hands with Goodrich: Ramall Goodrich scored 35 points as host Monroe of North Hills (8-11, 3-2) beat Van Nuys (2-18, 0-5) 69-47 in Valley Mission League play.

--Brown . . . again: Cecil Brown led Canoga Park (4-1 in league) once again with 34 points in his team's 87-70 win over host Poly of Sun Valley (7-13, 1-4) in a Sunset 6 League game.

--Toreadors too strong: Visiting Taft of Woodland Hills proved too much for neighbor El Camino Real El Camino Real (Spanish for The Royal Road or The King's Highway) was the name of a series of pre-automobile highways linking the various New World colonies of Spain:

In girls' basketball:

--Terrific tandem: Visiting Grant of Van Nuys handed Verdugo Hills of Tujunga a 83-23 drubbing in a Sunset 6 League game.

--Still rolling: Visiting North Hollywood remained unbeaten in Sunset 6 League play after a 71-32 thumping of Hollywood.

In boys' soccer:

--All Selder: Andrew Selder scored twice for visiting Harvard-Westlake of Studio City (10-7-4, 2-4) in a 2-1 Mission League win over Crespi of Encino (4-2 in league).

In girls' water polo water polo, swimming game encompassing features of soccer, football, basketball, and hockey. The object of the game is to maneuver, by head, feet, or hand, a leather-covered ball 27 to 28 in. :
