In softball:

Costly win: Chaminade opened its season with a 1-0 nonleague win over host Simi Valley, but the victory could prove costly for the Eagles. Maureen LeCocq, their all-area pitcher, re-injured her left (non-throwing) arm and left the game after four innings.

Before departing, LeCocq extended her string of innings in which she has not allowed an earned run to 168.

Chaminade head coach Steve Harrington said LeCocq's status is ``on a day-to-day basis.'' He said it was unlikely she would pitch again this week.

``It's happened to her before,'' Herrington said. ``A few years ago she popped the non-throwing shoulder out of her socket.''

Falcons fly high: Meredith Cervenka struck out 11 to raise her three-game season total to 37, and finished with a no-hitter as Crescenta Valley defeated visiting Canyon 3-0 in nonleague play. Melinda Moulden added a double and RBI as the Falcons (3-0) dropped the Coyboys to 2-2.
