Since scoring a season-low 15 points in the first round of the Valencia boys basketball tournament, Ventura's Jedd Staniland has gone on a tear. The senior has scored 77 points in the last two games, including 30 in leading Ventura to a 60-59 semifinal victory over Notre Dame Notre Dame IPA: [nɔtʁ dam] is French for Our Lady, referring to the Virgin Mary. In the United States of America, Notre Dame  on Friday at Valencia High.

The win puts the Cougars into today's consolation championship vs. Littlerock.

``I'm just feeling it right now,'' Staniland said. ``There's something about this gym - I love playing here.''

Ventura trailed by 10 points with two minutes left in the fourth quarter before outscoring Notre Dame 20-8 in the period to earn the win.

``We hit a few shots and got a few defensive stops,'' Ventura coach Dan Larson said. ``It's a great win any time you come back to beat a good team.''

In other Valencia Tournament games:

Chancellors near throne: Chatsworth advanced to the championship with a 64-50 win over Quartz Hill. Chatsworth will face Alemany tonight in the tournament finale.

Ron Ruffin had 16 points to lead the Chancellors (7-2), which led by just one at halftime.

Panthers win: Cause Hanna and Casey Schmidt each scored a goal and Geoff Raives had seven saves to lead Newbury Park (6-2,2-0) past Agoura 2-0.

In girls' soccer:

Higlanders top Musketeers: Jamie Cameron had 3 goals and Katy Flood added 2 as Royal blanked Moorpark 7-0. The Highlanders (4-3, 1-0) outshot the Musketeers 25-6, 10-1 on corner kicks.

Warriors blank TO: Christina Von Krog scored both goals as Westlake beat Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  2-0. Westlake improved to 4-0 on the season.
