Royal and Westlake, the top two teams, suffered home setbacks. Sixth-place Agoura beat Royal 10-6 and fifth-place Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  knocked off Westlake 13-9.

Surber leads Rebels golfers: Russell Surber shot 1-under-par 34 at Eaton Canyon Golf Course to lead the Flintridge Prep golf team past La Salle 189-195, clinching the Rebels' third Prep League title in four years.

Surber, headed to Texas, finished one stroke ahead of teammate Jeff Osborn.

First win: Canoga Park beat Reseda 3-1 in baseball. It was the Hunters' first win this season.

Poly want a rout: Sal Trujillo threw a five-inning shutout, striking out eight and giving up four hits in the Poly baseball team's 11-0 East Valley League win over Grant. Mark Castardo homered, tripled and had three RBI to lead the Parrot (13-5-2, 8-3-2) attack.

Benyo has Faith: Crissy Benyo hit a grand slam and drove in seven to lead Faith Baptist's softball team to a 28-9 nonleague rout over First Lutheran. Geri Heresi tripled twice and drove in six, and Antonette Araya tripled and had five RBI for Faith Baptist (3-9).
