THE DAILY NEWS WATCH-O-RAMA.

Byline: David Kronke

Highlights and lowlights of the coming TV week

ADULT SWIM'S HALLOWEEN SPECIAL

(Cartoon Network, 11:30 tonight)

Think: The mature (or terribly immature, depending on your point of view) programming block exploits the spooky holiday by airing its most abnormal work.

Don't think: They rustled up a bunch of reruns that circle the vague theme of scariness.

In a nutshell: It's highlighted by ``Sealab 2021's'' notorious ``Bizarro'' episode, easily the weirdest 15 minutes of television since Dan Rather tried to sort out the Florida mess on Election Night 2000.

24

(Fox, Channel 11, 9 p.m. Tuesday)

Think: Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) returns for another grueling real-time day of saving the planet: This time he's harboring a wrenching secret as he must stop a killer virus from being unleashed. Meanwhile, President Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) survived that assassination Assassination

attack but seems to have issues of his own.

Don't think: Is it possible that this season may feature the dumbest Kim (Elisha Cuthbert) subplot sub·plot
n.
1. A plot subordinate to the main plot of a literary work or film. Also called counterplot, underplot.

2. A subdivision of a plot of land, especially a plot used for experimental purposes.

In a nutshell: Despite a more nuanced opening salvo than past seasons, it's still diabolically compelling. The worse things get for Jack, the better they get for viewers.

AMC (Advanced Mezzanine Card) See AdvancedTCA.  MONSTERFEST

(AMC; 8 tonight through Saturday)

Think: A grab bag of horror films, as well as a program of new short films hosted by Clive Barker premiering 10 p.m. Friday.

Don't think: ``Pinata: Survival Island''? ``Halloween 3''? The 1976 ``King Kong''? ``Halloween 5''? ``Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter''? I am so there.

In a nutshell: There's the odd worthwhile movie tossed into the bunch, too, like ``An American Werewolf in London'' (midnight tonight and Monday) or ``Rosemary's Baby'' (midnight Tuesday). But that short-film special isn't worth abandoning your trick-or-treating over.

; 8 p.m. Wednesday)

Think: Highlights from opening weekend, featuring Yo-Yo Ma, Audra McDonald and, for glitz's sake, Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Don't think: If I was made of money, I, too, could've afforded a ticket to the festivities fes·tiv·i·ty
n. pl. fes·tiv·i·ties
1. A joyous feast, holiday, or celebration; a festival.

2. The pleasure, joy, and gaiety of a festival or celebration.

In a nutshell: After years of fund-raising and controversy, what's the building like and how are the acoustics? Now you'll find out.

AMERICAN MASTERS - JAMES BROWN: SOUL SURVIVOR

(KCET; 9:30 p.m. Wednesday)

Think: The Godfather of Soul, inching toward becoming the Great-Grandfather of Soul on his 70th birthday, rates this documentary that draws heavily from quotes from his autobiography and follows Soul Brother No. 1 returning to his roots.

Don't think: They could've saved me some TV-watching time tonight if they'd let the Hardest-Working Man in Show Business inaugurate Disney Hall. Or that Mr. Dynamite, who has far too many nicknames, would've been a natural playing Mumbles For the record label, see .

 in the ``Dick Tracy'' movie.

In a nutshell: An admirable job of attempting to separate the man from the icon - various interviewees don't exactly agree with each other - examining the racist milieu in which he came of age and the influences and evolution of his world-beating sound. And lots of dynamic clips.

THE O.C.

(Fox, Channel 11; 9 p.m. Wednesday)

Think: Return of the summer soap sensation doing everything it can to keep bad-boy-with-a-heart-of-gold (Benjamin McKenzie) from his happily-ever-after with poor-little-rich-girl (Mischa Barton).

Don't think: Gee, I bet they get together tonight.

In a nutshell: Many find this show highly addictive. Many find it just plain silly. They're both right.

KENNY THE SHARK Kenny the Shark is an animated television series produced by Discovery Kids. The show aired from 2003 until 2006, with 26 episodes having been shown. The show is no longer in production, but reruns can still be seen at various times on Discovery Kids.  and TUTENSTEIN

Major U.S. commercial broadcasting company. It was formed in 1926 by RCA Corp., General Electric Co. (GE), and Westinghouse and was the first U.S. company to operate a broadcast network.
 Channel 4, Saturday, 8-9 a.m.)

Think: Ostensibly educational cartoons soon to be repurposed on the Discovery Channel: In one, a girl gets a pet shark with zany misadventures ensuing; in the other, a cheeky, diminutive 3,010-year-old Pharaoh is resurrected by a 12-year-old Egyptologist and her talking cat.

Don't think: The guy's already a mummy; why'd they name him after Frankenstein?

In a nutshell: A full episode of ``Kenny'' wasn't available for preview so naturally while watching ``Tutenstein,'' my 10-year-old stepdaughter step·daugh·ter

WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISNEY: PHENOMENON II

(ABC ABC
 in full American Broadcasting Co.

Major U.S. television network. It began when the expanding national radio network NBC split into the separate Red and Blue networks in 1928.
, Channel 7; 8 p.m. Saturday)

Think: A Cliffs Notes version of the 1996 John Travolta vehicle, with Christopher Shyer sitting in as George, miraculously transformed into a genius and subsequently pursued by sinister military types. It then continues his adventures in San Francisco.

Don't think: Travolta was too busy with ``Battlefield Earth''! and ``Basic''! to do this?

In a nutshell: Even Travolta makes the right call occasionally. This is scarcely necessary, playing like a synthetic failed pilot episode for a supernatural ``Fugitive'' or New-Agey ``Pretender.''
