THE COMPASS POINTS TO KIDS' MEALS AT WENDY'S; KIDS GET 'GREEN' PREMIUMS, SUPPORT U.S. PARKS

DUBLIN, Ohio, May 27 /PRNewswire/ -- You're in the woods. You're not sure where you are, so you check your compass, open your water bottle and take a sip, check your notes, head northwest and find your way back to the picnic table.
This adventure was made possible by Wendy's Kids' Meals and the National Parks and Conservation Association (NPCA), America's only national, not-for-profit citizen organization dedicated solely to preserving and protecting the U.S. National Parks System. The NPCA, currently celebrating 75 years of "Citizens Protecting America's Parks," was founded in 1919 and has more than 350,000 members.
Wendy's Kids' Meals will point the way to fun and nature awareness with nature-related premiums and information, available at participating Wendy's during June and July. An insert card inside every Wendy's Kids' Meal gives youngsters the chance to join the NPCA, which informs the public about our national park system. Their $15 membership includes a year's subscription to "National Parks" magazine and an NPCA endangered wildlife T-shirt.
"Wendy's is helping us tell young people that national parks are fun, interesting places and giving them new ways to enjoy our parks and nature," says Elliot Gruber, the NPCA's director of marketing. "We're proud to be part of this effort."
To teach more about nature, Wendy's Kids' Meals contain one of five premiums: a working compass; a 10-ounce plastic water bottle with belt clip; a magnifying glass with case; a plastic belt pouch with Velcro closures, and; a Nature Notes journal with 44 pages of outdoor activities and facts with room to write observations. A collapsible cup is provided as a substitute premium for children under three.
"Today's young people are interested in the environment, and this is a fun way to give them information about our parks, and about nature," says Charles Rath, executive vice president of marketing for Wendy's. "With so many families planning summer vacations, we hope they take advantage of the great opportunities offered by our national parks."
Each Wendy's Kids' Meal also includes an insert card that describes how the premium can be used (for example, how to read a compass), and provides information about one of five national parks.
Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers restaurants were founded in 1969 by R. David Thomas, who named the chain after one of his daughters. Wendy's has more than 4,055 restaurants worldwide and annual sales of $3.6 billion.
