It turned out that this first serving was more than I could eat, so it really didn't matter that I could have had more. The entree plates of my dining companions also were unfinished. The only exception was a tri-tip salad ($9.95) of thick squares of tender tri-tip (tenderer than Simi's) on a multitreat salad topped with a generous chunk of avocado. Although it was a conspicuously large serving, the plate was left clean. As for that continuous promotion, at the relocated Simi restaurant, a huge, 48-ounce martini glass holding a brownie sundae for two, regularly priced at $6.99, was being presented gratis GRATIS. Another assortment dish of note here is the tri-tip, baby backs and half- chicken platter ($15.99) where the optional two sides chosen that time were nicely executed roasted potatoes and slightly sweet baked beans. Incidentally, it's nice to see a red zinfandel on a barbecue restaurant's wine list. So many barbecue spots don't seem to realize how well zinfandel complements this type of food. Anyway, Red's in Westlake sells a 2001 Chateau Souverain Dry Creek zin for $21 a bottle (or $6 per 7-ounce glass). A great match with the baby backs and moist barbecued chicken. Believe me.
