ATLANTA, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The Coca-Cola Company (NYSE: KO) today unveiled a new line of fruit teas under its popular Fruitopia brand and two new Nestea lines that capitalize on the strength of Nestea's iced tea heritage. The new teas will be available this Spring.

"Fruitopia and Nestea both have particular strengths that resonate with consumers, and these new tea lines position both brands to capitalize on those core strengths," Mary Minnick, assistant vice president and director of non-carbonated beverages, The Coca-Cola Company, said. "Fruitopia's fruitcentric approach to tea refreshment appeals to the fruit tea drinker, and Nestea's reputation as what real iced tea tastes like appeals to the serious iced tea lover."

Four new fruit teas -- Born Raspberry, Peaceable Peach, Lemon Berry Intuition, and Curious Mango -- broaden a Fruitopia brand that Time Magazine recently called one of the ten best new products of 1994.

"Consumers have connected with Fruitopia, and they've told us they want more choices under the Fruitopia brand name," Minnick said. "The unique personality of Fruitopia and a line of fruit teas are a natural combination."

Nestea will have new "Pitcher Style" and "Specialties" lines to complement its core line of sweetened with lemon, sweetened without lemon, and diet lemon. Nestea "Pitcher Style" recaptures for consumers the options that traditional iced tea from a pitcher offers: a real, truer iced tea taste and a variety of sweetness levels with unsweetened, lightly sweetened with lemon, and extra sweet with lemon. Nestea "Specialties" will initially feature Earl Grey and eventually expand to flavors like Oolong. In addition to these line extensions, "Nestea Cool" will be reintroduced as "Cool from Nestea," in sweetened with lemon and diet flavors. Nestea's line of fruit teas will be discontinued.

"Consumers have demonstrated a tremendous affinity for what Nestea represents -- real iced tea, the best tasting iced tea, honest and unpretentious," Minnick said. "These two new lines build on Nestea's strength as a brand synonymous with straight-forward iced tea refreshment."

Both Fruitopia and Nestea's new tea lines will be available in 16-ounce glass bottles, and Nestea's "Pitcher Style" and core line will also be available in 32-ounce PET bottles, the only major brand available in this convenient package. "Cool from Nestea" will be available in cans and one-liter and two-liter bottles.

In order to meet consumer demand for Fruitopia, Nestea, and other non-carbonated products, The Coca-Cola Company recently invested more than $150 million in additional production capacity.
