DiCaprio heads to `The Beach': 20th Century Fox has won all rights to ``The Beach,'' Leonardo DiCaprio's first post-``Titanic'' film. Danny Boyle (``Trainspotting'') will direct. Filming is slated to start early next year for a potential Christmas 1999 release. Based on the novel by Alex Garland Alex Garland (born 1970) is a British novelist and screenwriter.

Garland is the son of political cartoonist Nick Garland. He attended University College School, Hampstead, and the University of Manchester, where he studied art history.
