THOSE ENDURING MELODIES: The Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences announced 21 additions to its Grammy Hall of Fame, including Peter, Paul & Mary's 1963 version of ``Blowin' in the Wind'' and Led Zeppelin's ``Stairway to Heaven.''

Selections - which now number 606 - are drawn from all major categories of music, acknowledging the diversity of musical expression. Six of this year's picks are from the 1960s.

Besides ``Blowin' in the Wind,'' they include Judy Collins' 1968 generational touchstone ``Both Sides Now,'' Henry Mancini's 1963 film theme ``Days of Wine and Roses'' and Petula Clark's 1964 single ``Downtown.''

Eleven of the inductees are from the 1970s, including Carole King's ``It's Too Late''; Bruce Springsteen's 1975 breakthrough album, ``Born to Run''; Zeppelin's ``Stairway,'' one of the most heavily played album tracks of the rock era; Ike and Tina Turner's 1971 revamp of ``Proud Mary''; Paul Simon's ``Still Crazy After All These Years,'' his first solo recording to be inducted; Elton John's 1973 double album ``Goodbye Yellow Brick Road''; Fleetwood Mac's 1977 blockbuster ``Rumours''; and Patti LaBelle's 1975 r&b single ``Lady Marmalade.''

Four entries come from earlier decades, including Ethel Waters' 1933 version of ``Stormy Weather (Keeps Rainin' All the Time),'' the oldest recording to be inducted this year. Also on the list is jazz legend Thelonious Monk's 1949 album ``The Genius of Modern Music, Vols. 1 & 2''; the New York New York, state, United States

YOU CAN DANCE TO IT: Dance music is back on the FM dial at 103.1, the radio frequency that once broadcast edgy rhythmic formats Groove Radio and Mars FM as well as album alternative KACD.

The station, now known as KSSC, offered Spanish pop until Jan. 17, when owners Entravision flipped the format to English-language dance-pop by the likes of Madonna, Moby and Bob Marley.

KSSC-FM (103.1) is patterned on the Santa Monica media company's Dallas outlet, which has seen a ratings bump since changing its playlist A file that contains an index to a selected group of music files on the computer. FEEDBACK FOR TURTLES: Thanks to the efforts of Mexican rock band Mana's Selva Negra Foundation, more than 198,000 endangered baby sea turtles were released into the Pacific Ocean over the holidays.

Last year's numbers were lower than usual because many female turtles were unable to reach the beaches to lay their eggs when Hurricane Kena hit the shores of Mexico. But expectations are high for the next season, which begins in June 2003.
