TIME TO RE-CARPET: Red-carpet coverage may never be the same -- but there may not be many complaints about the change. On Wednesday, the TV Guide Channel announced that they would replace Joan and Melissa Rivers as hosts for its red-carpet programming, leaving the future of their fashion-bashing career uncertain -- but don't write them off (the carpet) for good.

For the past two years, the widely imitated (and mocked) but never duplicated mother-daughter team has been dishing harsh style criticism to and about celebs for the TV Guide Channel on Hollywood's biggest nights.

Now they're the focus of mild criticism themselves, more recently with Joan forgetting the names of the very celebs she is interviewing. Her slipups have been joked about on air during those events, but many would point to it as evidence of how out-of-touch the senior Rivers has become with Hollywood.

It is unclear, however, what the specific reasons are for their dismissal from their red-carpet roles (for which Joan and Melissa gave up a long-standing gig at E! Entertainment Television).

What is clear is that this may not be the end of the Joan and Melissa era. "All I can tell you is I will be more than happy to share my TV Guide experience with you, but not until my new deal is final," Melissa told the Daily News, echoing a statement by Joan.

Although details on who the deal is with were not revealed, it can be assumed their time at TV Guide has come to an end, with TV Guide introducing soap-star-

turned-TV personality and Valley boutique owner Lisa Rinna as the new red-carpet host and fashion expert, and wishing Joan and Melissa "the best in their future endeavors" in Wednesday's statement.

But if we know Joan and Melissa, this won't be the last we see of them. It just goes to show you that with a little determination and a lot of Botox you can scare anyone into a job ... in Hollywood, at least.

IN THE LAND OF PRIVACY: The media's constant barrage of questions shouted at stars as they walk the red carpet are no longer confined to "Who are you wearing?" It's more common to hear "Who are you dating?"

"It makes you a little more protective of your personal life in a good way, in a weird way. Like, it makes me value it more," says Adam Brody, who starred on the small screen in "The O.C." and will open on the big screen Friday with Meg Ryan in "In the Land of Women."

"It makes me feel like I can even cherish it a little more because it's just mine. I've done such a good job, like this is my private time. This is my backyard. No one can come in."
