Hits on the Net: Billboard Online has begun Billboard Radio on broadcast.com, the first on-demand Internet program featuring the countdown of the Billboard Hot 100, the weekly chart of the most popular songs in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. .

Beginning Monday, fans can listen to Billboard Radio at www.billboardradio.com and at www.broadcast.com/music/billboard/. Billboard Radio will be available for syndication See syndication format.  on other sites, the company said Monday.

The weekly program will be written by Fred Bronson, author of Billboard's weekly Chart Beat column, and hosted by Chuck Taylor, radio editor of Billboard.

The five-hour shows will include a look at the week's hottest songs on the Billboard Hot 100 and the No. 1 hits on other Billboard charts On January 4, 1936, Billboard magazine published its first music hit parade and on July 20, 1940 the first Music Popularity Chart was calculated. Since 1958 the Hot 100 has been published, combining single sales and radio airplay. , including hot r&b and modern rock. Billboard Radio also will report on the No. 1 song in Europe each week and flash back to hits from previous Billboard charts.

On track with CNNfn: The financial cable network CNNfn announced plans on Tuesday to begin an Internet portal site Noun 1. portal site - a site that the owner positions as an entrance to other sites on the internet; "a portal typically has search engines and free email and chat rooms etc.  for finance-oriented users, raising the stakes in a battle for the attention of the growing number of Internet surfers

Though CNNfn officials say the initiative is all new, the network essentially will be a portal site with a heavy financial slant. Like the offerings of portal giants such as Yahoo! and Excite, CNNfn's Internet financial network will feature search functions, navigation tools, commerce and e-mail services See Internet e-mail service.  together with CNNfn's financial content.

CNNfn, a unit of Time Warner Inc., will roll out the new site in about 60 days.
