THE BUZZ.

Byline: - Compiled by Fred Shuster

OBJECTION SUSTAINED: Wal-Mart has pulled the biggest-selling book in the nation from its shelves because of a picture the retail giant deems offensive.

``America (the Book),'' a parody of a civics civics, branch of learning that treats of the relationship between citizens and their society and state, originally called civil government. After being told of the pic by the book's distributor, Wal-Mart decided to sell it only on its Web site (walmart.com), but not in stores. Karen Burk, a Wal-Mart spokeswoman, said the company ``felt a majority of our customers may not be comfortable with that image.''

Meanwhile, ``America (the Book)'' has been the No. 1 nonfiction title on the New York Times best-seller list since its debut Oct. 10.

RUBIO BRINGS UP REAR: Mexican singer/songwriter Julieta Venegas was the top winner at the third annual MTV Video Music Awards The MTV Video Music Awards were established in 1984 by MTV to celebrate the top music videos of the year. Originally beginning as an alternative to the Grammy Awards, the MTV Video Music Awards is now a respected pop culture awards show in its own right.  Latin America, but all eyes were on Paulina Rubio.

U2'S 'OCTOBER' SURPRISE: U2's Bono finally found what he was looking for.

A long-lost briefcase full of notes and lyrics intended for the 1981 U2 album ``October'' has been returned 23 years after it was nicked at a Portland concert.

U2 frontman Bono made the announcement during an appearance before the World Affairs Council World Affairs Council may refer to:

of Oregon, saying the returned notes were ``an act of grace.''

The briefcase was lifted by some gals who hung out with the group backstage at a now-defunct Portland club.

The band has a long history of losing stuff - the ``Achtung Baby'' work tapes, a laptop full of lyrics for ``All That You Can't Leave Behind'' and guitarist Edge's disc of rough mixes for the band's forthcoming album ``How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb.''

SMEAR TACTICS: Maybe right-wing media babe Ann Coulter doesn't know how to talk to a liberal after all.
