has pink-slipped America's No. 3 best-selling self-help guru Bob Patterson. Last-minute help from pal Jerry Seinfeld, who recently taped a promo for his former ``Seinfeld'' co-star Jason Alexander's new sitcom, ``Bob Patterson,'' couldn't spark a Nielsen uptick for the show, and the network gave it the ax.

``Patterson'' is the second consecutive comedy series built around a former ``Seinfeld'' sidekick to be canceled before it had completed its initial 13-episode run. NBC NBC

After a rough start in the competitive 9 p.m. Tuesday slot against NBC's stalwart ``Frasier,'' ``Patterson,'' starring Alexander as a motivational speaker with a messed-up personal life, was given another chance in the post-``The Drew Carey Show'' 9:30 p.m. slot.

Following two lackluster airings in the new time period the comedy was given the hook. ABC is expected to temporarily fill the 9:30 p.m. Wednesday slot with ``Drew Carey'' repeats or episodes of the Drew Carey-hosted ``Whose Line Is It Anyway?''

The short life spans of ``Patterson'' and ``Michael Richards'' - both high-profile flops for their networks - are marked by striking similarities. Both series went through reworking, recasting and reshooting of the pilot, as well as the departure of an executive producer.

Next up is Louis-Dreyfus, whose comedy series, ``23:12,'' is expected to premiere in March on NBC.
