They all get A's for makeup work

The winners of the fourth annual Hollywood Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist Guild Awards were announced Sunday at the Beverly Hilton hotel. Veteran hair stylist Paul LeBlanc, the first hairstylist ever to win an Academy Award for hairstyling and makeup in 1985 for ``Amadeus,'' and the late veteran makeup artist Jack Pierce received the guild's lifetime achievement awards. Pierce worked in the 1930s and 1940s at Universal Studios to help create icons of Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Lon Chaney Jr. and the monster movie genre itself. The top three winners were Ann Brodie for ``My Big Fat Greek Wedding'' in the best contemporary makeup category; Samuel Jordan, Patricia Keighran and Edelgard Pfuegl for ``Chicago'' in best period makeup; and Peter King and Peter Owen for ``Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers'' in best character makeup.
