The gift comes to LACMA as part of Chicago-based Sara Lee's ``Millennium Gift to America,'' a large-scale donation of the corporation's art collection to more than 20 museums, primarily in the United States. Other recipients will include the Art Institute of Chicago Art Institute of Chicago, museum and art school, in Grant Park, facing Michigan Ave. It was incorporated in 1879; George Armour was the first president. Since 1893 the Institute has been housed in its present building, designed in the Italian Renaissance style by , the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and the Detroit Institute of Arts The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA), originally named the Detroit Museum of Art, has one of the largest, most significant art collections in the United States. .

The painting, which dates from 1880 or later, was painted during the period when Sisley took up residence near the forest of Fountainbleau in France. It will be added to LACMA's collections of 19th-century French paintings.

``This exceptional gift of Sara Lee Corp. would be eagerly welcomed by any museum,'' said Graham W.J. Beal, director of LACMA. ``What makes it all the more extraordinary is the way it has been carefully chosen to add to our museum's strengths.''

The painting will be on view at LACMA only until the end of the year, after which it will join other works from the Millennium Gift for an international touring exhibition.
