Eugene Zendo - The Zen Buddhist Noun 1. Zen Buddhist - an adherent of the doctrines of Zen Buddhism

 group will begin offering Sunday services this Sunday at 2190 Garfield St. The services will start with beginning instruction in seated meditation for newcomers at 8 a.m., followed by chanting and services at 9 a.m. A period of Zazen zazen

Sitting meditation as practiced in Zen Buddhism. The disciple sits in a quiet room, breathing rhythmically and easily, with legs fully or half crossed, spine and head erect, hands folded one palm above the other, and eyes open.
 (seated meditation; chairs also available) will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Dharma dharma (där`mə). In Hinduism, dharma is the doctrine of the religious and moral rights and duties of each individual; it generally refers to religious duty, but may also mean social order, right conduct, or simply virtue.  talk (religious discussion) and question-and-answer period with temple priest Ejo McMullen. The services will end at 11 a.m. with tea. Free. Information: 343-3049.

SouthHills Church - The church will celebrate its first year at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Oak Hill School gymnasium, off 30th Avenue, next to Lane Community College. Afternoon barbecue and activities to follow.

Springfield Church of God - The Knox Brothers will perform at 6 p.m. Sunday at the church, 14th and D streets. Donation requested.

Central Presbyterian Church Located on the northeast corner of Brazos and Bois d'Arc (now Eighth Street), Central Presbyterian Church in Austin Texas traces its roots to the organization of the first Presbyterian church in Austin on Sunday, October 13, 1839. That event, conducted by Rev.  - The Rev. Ann Bowersox, University of Oregon The University of Oregon is a public university located in Eugene, Oregon. The university was founded in 1876, graduating its first class two years later. The University of Oregon is one of 60 members of the Association of American Universities.  Presbyterian campus pastor, will preach on "Common Questions" at the 9 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. worship services Sunday at the church.  "Peace and Justice" adult education class at 10:15 a.m. will provide a presentation on Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. At the Wednesday evening adult education offering at 6:30 p.m., the Rev. Kent Organ will lead a discussion of the Presbyterian Church (USA) Task Force on Peace, Unity and Purity, a report addressing conflict in the church concerning the ordination of gays and lesbians in the denomination. Springfield Unitarian Universalist Fellowship - Anna Sontag of the University of Oregon's Institute on Violence and Destructive Behavior leads a discussion about bullying when the fellowship meets at 5 p.m. Sunday at 1072 Main St. Child care available. Information: 988-0277.

Pastor Appreciation Reception - A reception and open house to honor Larry Browning, founding pastor of Valley Hills Community Church in Springfield, and his wife, Ann, will be held next Saturday, Oct. 1, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at Grace Community Fellowship, 989 Country Club Road in Eugene. Larry Browning resigned Aug. 30 due to his battle with multiple sclerosis. Information: 995-6249.

Unity of the Valley Church - Monthly Vipassana/Metta meditation session, 9 a.m. to noon next Saturday, Oct. 1, at the church, East 39th Avenue and Hilyard Street.

Eugene Christian Fellowship - Applications are now being accepted for a free nine-week "Jobs for Life" program at the fellowship, 89780 N. Game Farm Road, beginning Oct. 9. Program aims to help unemployed and underemployed un·der·em·ployed

 people improve their personal skills and learn effective job interviewing and resume writing techniques. Participants are paired with mentors for a yearlong follow-up after course completion. Classes, open to all regardless of church affiliation, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Sundays and 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wed- nesdays. Information: 344-3380.
