Santa Clara Church of Christ Yard Sale - The church's youth group will sponsor a huge yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the church, 175 Santa Clara Ave. Furniture, tools, clothes, kitchen utensils, office equipment, books, washer/dryer, etc. Money goes to summer camp and conference tuitions.

Trinity United Methodist Church - Matthew Eddy will be guest speaker at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service at the church, 440 Maxwell Road. Eddy's sermon, "That Will Teach Them," is from a sermon series titled "Unpreachable Texts: the Bible's Most Embarrassing Moments." Eddy and his wife, Robyn, former co-pastors at a Methodist church in Mount Vernon, Wash., recently returned from an 18-month, 13-country trip that featured hikes in the Himalayas and the Andes. Valley River Baptist Church - Chris Roush, a member of the American Baptist Churches of Oregon staff who serves on the camping and mission support board, will bring the worship service message at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the church, 1145 Willagillespie Road. Information: 345-6752.

Bethel Temple Faith Ministries - Pastor and founding bishop A.J. Shankle will give the sermon celebrating the temple's fourth annual conference at 3:45 p.m. Sunday at 2170 W. 18th Ave. Registration is under way for the temple's Vacation Bible School, slated for 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Thurston Community Baptist Church VBS - Vacation Bible School will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the church, 6364 Main St. in Springfield. For youth in grades K-6. Theme is "Discovering God's Love." Bible stories, games, crafts, snacks. Information: 726-5556.

Bible Lecture Series - A 10-week summer lecture series on "Great Questions from the Bible" will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Church of Christ, 1005 Coburg Road. Don Bassett of Collierville, Tenn., will give the first lecture, titled "Who is the Lord that I Should Obey His Voice?" Subsequent lectures, at 7 p.m. Wednesdays, will feature other speakers from across the country. Free. Includes singing of hymns and spiritual songs. Information: 344-7752.

Yoga and Meditation Class - An informal, drop-in class is offered every Thursday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 1376 Olive St. Free, any donations given to church. Bring yoga pad or blanket, comfortable clothing. Class is half hatha yoga (stretching) and half meditation with touch of Eastern philosophy. Teacher Bruce Boyd has been practicing yoga and meditation since the early '70s and spent 15 years in India, Nepal, China, Japan and Thailand studying with several teachers. First Baptist Church - A worship music and social time with The Upper Room and the acoustic rock group Calling Simon will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church off Coburg Road.
