Temple Beth Israel Beth Israel, which means "House of Israel" in Hebrew, could refer for:

 - An observance of Jewish High Holy Days will continue at the temple, 2550 Portland St., with a Rosh Hashana service at 9 a.m. today followed by children's services at 10 a.m. (ages 2 through 7) and 11 a.m. (ages 8 through 12). At 9 a.m. Sunday, a Second Day service will be held at the temple. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 5 at Rest Haven Memorial Park, 3900 Willamette St. A Erev Yom Kippur Yom Kippur [Heb.,=day of atonement], in Judaism, the most sacred holy day, falling on the 10th day of the Jewish month of Tishri (usually late September or early October). It is a day of fasting and prayer for forgiveness for sins committed during the year.  (Kol Nidre Kol Nidre: see Yom Kippur.

Prayer sung in Jewish synagogues at the start of services on the eve of Yom Kippur. The prayer begins with an expression of repentance for all unfulfilled vows, oaths, and promises to God during the previous year.
) service will follow at 6:30 p.m. at McDonald Theatre, 1010 Willamette St. On Oct. 6, Yom Kippur services will be held at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., children's services at 10 a.m. (ages 2 through 7) and 11 a.m. (ages 8 through 12), and a Ne'ila service at 6 p.m. at the temple. Valley Covenant Church - Steven Bouma-Prediger, professor of religion at Hope College in Holland, Mich., will speak about "Biblical Faith and Ecological Vision" at the ninth Church and Culture Conference held Friday through Sunday, Oct. 3-5, at the church, 3636 W. 18th Ave. At 7 p.m. Friday, he will lecture on "Is God Green?" At 10 a.m. Oct. 4, his topic will be "Do You Want to be Left Behind?" and at 7 p.m. Oct. 4, "Why Care for Creation?" His topic at the 9:30 a.m. worship service on Oct. 5 will be "To Serve and Protect." The conference is sponsored by Windows Booksellers in Eugene and by the church. For information, call 345-0055.

Copia Lecture Series - Series resumes with a presentation titled "The Aramaic Jesus: Language and Our Relationship to the Divine." It will be offered at 7:30 p.m. today at St. Mary's Episcopal Church Episcopal Church, Anglican church of the United States. Its separate existence as an American ecclesiastical body with its own episcopate began in 1789. Doctrine and Organization

Irving Christian Church - A gospel concert featuring the Trammels and Co., the Harmony Family Band, Jim and Carol Brown and Just Country will be held at 6 p.m. today at the church, 1300 Irvington Drive.  Lutheran Church - Chris Dalhvig, director of Camp Lutherwood, will speak at the church's annual Outreach Sunday service at 11 a.m. at 85780 McBeth Road. He will lead singing and talk about the mission of the camp. A fellowship potluck luncheon will be served following the service. For information, call 343-9170.

Springfield Lutheran Church - Pastor Erik Post will be installed as the church's new pastor at a 3 p.m. service at the church, 1542 I St., Springfield. The pastor is a native Oregonian, completed his high school and undergraduate studies in Portland and received his pastoral training at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary (PLTS) is a seminary based in Berkeley, California. It is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and is a member school of the Graduate Theological Union (GTU).  in Berkeley. He and his wife, Mary, have four sons. New Vision Community Church - The grand opening of a new church will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Prairie prairie
