THE BOMBAY COMPANY, INC. FILES APPLICATION FOR LISTING ON THE NEW YORK STOCK EXCHANGE

 FORT WORTH, Texas, May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The Bombay Company, Inc. (AMEX: BBA) announced today that it has filed an application to list its common stock on the New York Stock Exchange, with trading expected to commence in late May under the current symbol BBA.
 The company has approximately 15,890,000 shares outstanding. The stock has traded in a 52 week range of $15.00 to $43.75 and closed at $42.25 on Wednesday, May 5, 1993.
 Mr. Robert E. M. Nourse, president and chief executive officer, stated that "the New York Stock Exchange listing is an important milestone for our company. We expect it will increase the liquidity of our shares, provide greater visibility in the investment community and help broaden our shareholder base both domestically and abroad."
 The Bombay Company, Inc. is a specialty retailer marketing traditionally styled furniture, prints and accessories through a network of 378 Bombay and Alex & Ivy stores in the United States and Canada. The company recently announced plans to convert substantially all of its Bombay Company stores, over a five year period, to a larger format averaging 3,800 square feet, roughly 2-1/2 times the existing store size. Also announced was the rollout of its Alex & Ivy chain, which markets home furnishings and accessories emphasizing country designs, with approximately 120 new stores to be built over the next three years.
