THE BOC GROUP APPOINTS DEPUTY CHAIRMAN AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF GASES

 MURRAY HILL, N.J., Jan. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The BOC Group announces it has appointed Pat Dyer, currently managing director - gases, as deputy chairman, The BOC Group.
 Pat Dyer, 60, joined The BOC Group in 1989 and has 29 years of experience in the international gases industry.
 In his new position, Mr. Dyer will assist the Group's Chairman and Chief Executive Patrick Rich with leadership responsibility for the overall direction of the Group and will deputize for the chairman in a wide range of activities.
 At the same time, C.K. Chow, currently director- North Pacific Gases, is appointed Group operating officer and chief executive, BOC Gases. He will report directly to the chairman.
 Mr. Chow, who is 42, joined BOC in 1976. He has held a number of senior management positions in BOC in Hong Kong, Japan and the U.K. He was appointed to his current position in 1990.
 Airco Gases is a leading manufacturer and supplier of industrial gases and gas handling technology in the United States. The company's primary gas products include cryogenic and non-cryogenic nitrogen and oxygen, as well as argon, carbon dioxide, helium, hydrogen and a variety of medical, rare and special gases.
 Airco is a member of The BOC Group, the worldwide industrial gases, health care, vacuum technology and distribution services company operating in more than 60 countries and with sales last year of $5.2 billion.
 Biographies:
 Alexander P. Dyer -- 60, joined The BOC Group as managing director - gases, in 1989. He has 29 years' experience in the international gases industry, having previously worked for Air Products and Chemicals Inc. Since 1987, he was the executive vice president responsible for Air Products and Chemicals' worldwide gases and equipment business. He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1954 with a B.S. degree in engineering and the Harvard Business School in 1959 with an M.B.A. He served in the U.S. Army between 1954 and 1957.
 C.K. Chow -- 42, joined BOC in 1976, and has held a number of senior management positions in Hong Kong, Japan and the U.K. He was appointed regional director - North Pacific in 1990.
