THE BISYS GROUP INC. ANNOUNCES LETTER OF INTENT TO PURCHASE ITEM PROCESSING BUSINESS

 LITTLE FALLS, N.J., Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Lynn Mangum of The BISYS Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: BSYS), announced today that the company has signed a letter of intent to purchase the item processing business of Data Management Systems, Inc. (DMS), Hyannis, Mass.
 The acquisition will add more than 30 banking institution clients and position BISYS to expand its item processing business in the Massachusetts area. Terms of the proposed transaction, which is expected to be completed in February, were not disclosed.
 "BISYS provides account processing to a significant number of banking organizations in the New England area," said Mangum. "The DMS acquisition provides the opportunity to offer item processing in New England, fulfilling our commitment to be our client's single-source solution for outsourcing."
