 NEW YORK, Dec. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed higher today in very heavy trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 7.21 to 390.15, the largest gain for the year. Advances led declines 430 to 246 with 244 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose 21 cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 24,588,520 shares, up from the 14,185,620 shares traded Friday. After-Hours volume totaled 200 shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 24,588,720 shares.
 There were 187 block trades, while 191 blocks were traded in the previous trading session.
 Topping the most active list was Hanson PLC Class B warrants when issued, up 1/32 to 13/32 on 1,803,100 shares, followed by Americus Trust For G.E. Shares (Scores), up 1-3/8 to 8 on 589,400 shares. The third most active issue, Bolar Pharmaceuticals was up 2-3/8 to 12-1/2 on 584,400 shares.

 Trading in options was active today with 232,048 contracts changing hands as compared with 152,690 contracts traded Friday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Philip Morris Jan. 80 series, down 1-7/8 to 1-1/2 on 3,548 contracts, followed by the Major Market Index Jan. 330 series, down 5/8 to 1-3/8 on 3,164 contracts. The third most active was the Amgen Jan. 60 series down 5/16 to 3/8 on 1,733 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Philip Morris Jan. 80 series, up 1-7/16 to 2-1/16 on 4,113 contracts, followed by the Amgen Jan. 65 series up 2-3/4 to 5-5/8 on 3,038 contracts. The third most active was the Philip Morris Jan. 75 series, up 2-15/16 to 5-7/8 on 3,004 contracts.
