THANKSGIVING TRADITIONS.


H. Grady Howell, Jr. of Madison has compiled a unique blend of American and Mississippi history with a Christian perspective and family focus on the tradition of Thanksgiving. His 40-page Thanksgiving booklet, We Gather Together: Thanksgiving Day in Mississippi, 1847-1997, is complete with an illustration on the back and a place to designate des·ig·nate

He begins the collection with an Introduction that lists references to passages in the Bible that have to do with the concept of giving thanks to God. The material Howell collected for this publication commences with the Proclamation An act that formally declares to the general public that the government has acted in a particular way. Albert Gallatin Brown (May 31, 1813 – June 12, 1880) was Governor of Mississippi from 1844 to 1848 and a United States Senator from Mississippi from 1854 through 1861. Brown attended Mississippi College.

The last few pages are blank with the headings, "Family Roots" and "Family Recipes," leaving space for readers to fill in their own Thanksgiving traditions.
