TEXTRON LYCOMING TO PARTICIPATE IN ROLLS-ROYCE TAY 670 ENGINE PROGRAM
STRATFORD, Conn., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Rolls-Royce and Textron Lycoming today announced they have signed an agreement covering Textron Lycoming's participation in the Rolls-Royce Tay 670 turbofan engine program.
Under the terms of the agreement, Connecticut-based Textron Lycoming will contribute design engineering resources and expertise to the Tay 670 engine development program. In addition, Lycoming will manufacture engine parts, components and subassemblies as a subcontractor to Rolls-Royce.
Charles Kuintzle, Textron Lycoming's vice president of Business Development said, "Our ALF502/LF507 family of commercial turbofans have met or exceeded FAA Stage 3 noise standards for more than a decade. We're pleased to be able to work with Rolls-Royce on the design engineering, development and manufacture of the next generation, environmentally friendly Tay 670 turbofan engine and look forward to contributing our considerable technical resources and expertise toward making the Tay 670 a resounding success in the marketplace."
The 18,000-pound-thrust class Tay 670 turbofan engine is perfectly sized to meet the power requirements for re-engining the large fleet of non-Stage 3 aircraft including DC-9, 737 and 727-200 aircraft. In addition, to surpassing all FAA Stage 3 noise requirements and environmental standards, its design reflects considerable attention to the areas of engine reliability, low fuel burn and increased aircraft range/payload.
Rolls-Royce and McDonnell Douglas have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) enabling McDonnell Douglas to offer the Tay 670 to power its proposed MD-95 airliner.
Textron Lycoming, located in Stratford, is a subsidiary of Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT), a multi-industry company with operations in three business categories: Aerospace Technology, Commercial Products and Financial and other services.
