TEXT FROM TURIN.Byline: - Paul Oberjuerge I never pack right for the Winter Olympics. I've been to six of these now; you'd think I'd get it right. Mostly, it's the unfamiliarity of the concept; SoCal native, and all. I'm sure I own some winter clothes, then I root around my closet the day before I leave and come up with a handful of useful things - including a turtle-necked ski shirt I've taken to every Winter Games since 1984. Really. I have a black-and-white photo to prove it. So, yes, my wardrobe is out of date and a bit ratty. And far too colorful. Again, I plead SoCal cultural blindness when I bring my white Stan Smith adidas sneakers and red sweatshirt. On a continent where the official winter colors are black and gray, wearing white shoes and a red sweatshirt (even to take a walk) makes you stick out like a harlequin at a funeral mass. Note to self: If ever I do this again, bring dark (waterproof) sneakers, some sweaters (I currently own none) and make sure my couple of heavier jackets aren't frayed at the sleeves - and don't have Members Only tags above the pockets.
