TEXAS INSTRUMENTS DSPS IMPROVE PROCESSING TIME AND HARD COPY IMAGE QUALITY FOR HP PRODUCTS.

Underscoring the emergence of digital signal processors (DSPs) as the engine of high-performance imaging appliances, Texas Instruments, Inc. (TI) (NYSE: TXN) has announced that the TI DSP platform has been selected for two of Hewlett-Packard Company's newest multifunction products (MFPs). The programmable TI TMS320C6000 DSPs allows HP to deliver high quality hard copy images quickly and cost effectively for its customers. HP MFPs, which are marketed to the commercial customer segment, enable users to perform multiple functions, such as print, copy, scan and fax, from one device to improve productivity and save costs.

HP's use of the high-performance TI DSP platform is part of a growing market trend. As more printers evolve into networked, multifunction appliances, the performance and programmability of TI's DSPs can help manufacturers quickly and cost-effectively deliver products that facilitate document management for large work groups.

In addition to reducing time-to-market, TI's programmable DSPs enable companies to keep pace with the changing standards of the imaging industry by allowing them to implement their own intellectual property for market-winning product differentiation. For instance, because of code compatibility in the DSP platform, HP can upgrade product software through a simple downloading process. With the C6000 DSP platform, HP customers can experience enhanced image quality in finished documents and flexibility in the development of mathematically intensive image processing algorithms. In addition, the single programmable DSP replaces several fixed-function devices, thereby reducing overall system cost.

To aid the development and inclusion of DSPs in the HP LaserJet MFPs, TI provided HP with access to its imaging software library and the TI Imaging Developer's Kit. TI also offers a wide range of imaging software modules from the world's largest network of DSP third party developers.
