Byline: Walter Hammerwold Staff Writer

BEVERLY HILLS Beverly Hills, city (1990 pop. 31,971), Los Angeles co., S Calif., completely surrounded by the city of Los Angeles; inc. 1914. The largely residential city is home to many motion-picture and television personalities.  - Selvin Young Selvin Young (born October 1, 1983 in Houston, Texas) is an American football player for the Denver Broncos. He signed as an undrafted free agent for the team in April 2007.  will be among the players taking the field for Texas' first offensive play from scrimmage A play from scrimmage is the activity of the games of Canadian football and American football during which one team tries to advance the ball or to score, and the other team tries to stop them or take the ball away.  in tonight's Rose Bowl. The oft-injured running back was named the starter by head coach Mack Brown William Mack Brown (born August 27, 1951) is head coach of the University of Texas Longhorn football team. During the 2005 season, Coach Brown led the Longhorns to a Rose Bowl victory and a National Championship.  at a press conference Tuesday morning.

Young began the season listed first on the Longhorns' depth chart but saw his time limited by a nagging ankle injury. Young had fallen to third string during the regular season behind emerging stars Jamaal Charles Jamaal RaShaad Charles (born December 27, 1986 in Port Arthur, Texas) is a running back for The University of Texas Longhorns. Charles is a "speed back" (as opposed to a "power back") and has enough speed to compete in track at the collegiate level.  and Ramonce Taylor Ramonce Taylor (born September 11, 1985 in Temple, Texas)[1] is a running back who played for The University of Texas Longhorns college football team. He played for the 2005 National Championship Team and scored 15 total touchdowns that season (12 rushing and , both of whom averaged at least seven yards per carry this year.

Brown said his decision stemmed from Young's performance in practice the past month and his veteran status. Young is a redshirt junior, whereas Charles is a freshman and Taylor is a sophomore.

``We thought we'd put the older guy out there first,'' Brown said. ``But we've played all three backs, and they'll play during the ballgame.

``He's just out there for the first snap.''

The Longhorns platooned the three backs this season, with each getting between 72 and 114 carries. They are expected to share time today, along with short-yardage specialist Henry Melton Henry Melton (born October 11, 1986 in Cedar Hill, Texas) is a junior defensive end for The University of Texas Longhorns college football team. He was a running back for the 2005 National Championship Team and he has also played on special teams. .

Young gained 416 yards on 89 carries this season and finished fifth in rushing behind Charles, Taylor, Melton and quarterback Vince Young.

--Shock to the system: Brown said Tuesday he was on a recruiting visit during last season's Bowl Championship Series title game at the Orange Bowl and did not see much of the first half live.

He was shocked by the score when he got home.

``I was on a home visit, and I called my wife during the first quarter,'' Brown said. ``She told me, 'It looks like Oklahoma's going to kill them.' And I said, 'Hang on, sweetie, 'Honey, I'll see you soon.' ''

Oklahoma led USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code.  7-0 early in the game. But the Trojans scored 28 unanswered points and outscored the Sooners 38-3 the rest of the first half en route to a 55-19 victory.

Pundits predicting a USC blowout today have cited the similarities between this game and that one in defending their predictions. Like this game, that one featured the Big 12 Conference champion playing the Trojans. And like this game, that one featured two highly touted and unbeaten teams.

``Obviously, the game last year was not, I would say, what we all thought,'' Brown said. ``It's not what I would have thought. If those teams played 10 times, the differential wouldn't be 55-19 every time. But in that one ballgame, it's one that USC got rolling and Oklahoma couldn't stop them.''
