TEVA PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRIES LTD. ANNOUNCES FDA APPROVAL OF NORTRIPTYLINE -- Teva's Sixth Approval in 1995--.


JERUSALEM, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 29, 1995--Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Limited (Nasdaq:TEVIY), Israel's largest pharmaceutical company, announced today it has received approval from the Food and Drug Administration to manufacture and market Nortriptyline Hydrochloride capsules.

Nortriptyline nortriptyline /nor·trip·ty·line/ (nor-trip´ti-len) a tricyclic antidepressant, used as the hydrochloride salt to treat depression and panic disorder and to relieve chronic severe pain.  is a generic equivalent of Sandoz's antidepressant product, PamelorR. Although there are several generic equivalents of Nortriptyline available, the market for this compound is now estimated to be over $120 million in the United States.

This is Teva's sixth approval this year, following the approval of Miconazole miconazole /mi·con·a·zole/ (mi-kon´ah-zol) an imidazoleantifungal agent used as the base or the nitrate salt against tinea and cutaneous or vulvovaginal candidiasis.  vaginal cream (a generic equivalent of Ortho's MonistatR), Atenolol atenolol /aten·o·lol/ (ah-ten´ah-lol) a cardioselective ß used in the treatment of hypertension and chronic angina pectoris and the prophylaxis and treatment of myocardial infarction and cardiac arrhythmias.  tablets (a generic equivalent of Zeneca's TenorminR), Metoprolol metoprolol /met·o·pro·lol/ (met?ah-pro´lol) a cardioselective ß used in the form of the succinate and tartrate salts in the treatment of hypertension, chronic angina pectoris, and myocardial infarction.  tablets (a generic equivalent of Geigy's LopressorR), Cimetidine tablets (a generic equivalent of SmithKline Beecham's TagametR), and Clotrimazole clotrimazole /clo·trim·a·zole/ (klo-trim´ah-zol) an imidazole derivative used as a broad-spectrum antifungal agent.
