TERMINAL ILLNESS DELAYS TRIAL FOR CYANIDE POISONING SUSPECT.

A homeless woman charged with trying to kill dozens of people by mailing them cyanide cyanide (sī`ənīd'), chemical compound containing the cyano group, -CN. Cyanides are salts or esters of hydrogen cyanide (hydrocyanic acid, HCN) formed by replacing the hydrogen with a metal (e.g., sodium or potassium) or a radical (e.g.  has about six months to live and her trial has been indefinitely postponed.

Kathryn Schoonover, 50, her public defender public defender, governmental official who represents indigent persons accused of crime. Schoonover is charged with two counts of attempting to murder people by sending them poison disguised as a nutritional supplement. She was arrested Aug. 23 in Marina del Rey Del Rey may refer to:

 court papers, Schoonover's physician, Dr. Ramadas Aboy, said that the defendant's breast cancer has spread to her liver and possibly her bones.

``Dr. Aboy has informed counsel for both parties that Schoonover has no more than a year to live and that she most likely has less than six months to live,'' the five-page stipulation states. Aboy added that trial could ``hasten her death.''

Schoonover will be re-evaluated in December, when a decision will be made whether she is still unable to stand trial.

Schoonover was arrested outside a Marina del Rey post office after she was spotted teaspooning poison into packets and preparing them for the mail.

Investigators said she had two ``hit'' lists, with names including several health care professionals, police officers and a West Covina West Covina, city (1990 pop. 96,086), Los Angeles co., S Calif., in the San Gabriel valley; settled 1905, inc. 1923. Before World War II, West Covina was a small rural community where walnuts, wheat, and livestock were raised.  City Council member.

Schoonover could face 40 years in prison, along with the possibility of more time if extra charges are filed.
