From the moment the Burbank girls' tennis team arrived Saturday at Valley College for its second-round match in the Southern Section Div. III playoffs, all Steve Kuechel could do was apologize.

--Harvard-Westlake 12, Newport Harbor 6: Hilary Barte improved her record to 36-0 with three 6-0 victories, and Amber Harper and Jennifer Kaswick swept in doubles to improve to 39-0 as Harvard-Westlake of Studio City (16-3) won a second-round match at Newport Harbor of Newport Beach Newport Beach, residential and resort city (1990 pop. 66,643), Orange co., S Calif., on Newport Bay and the Pacific Ocean; inc. 1906. It is a popular seaside resort and yachting center. Manufactures include electrical and medical equipment, computers, boats, and adhesives.  (13-8).

--Palm Desert 14, Crescenta Valley The Crescenta Valley is a small inland valley in Los Angeles County, California. Its name derives from its crescent-like shape, with the convex portion facing roughly northeast and the concave portion southwest.  4: Alina Karapetyan won two sets in singles, and Tiffany Mann Tiffany Phaedra Mann (b 1969) is a mountain bike racer. She specializes in racing a single-speed bicycle and effectively competing versus other racers using geared mountain bikes. Tiffany races on a bicycle made by Independent Fabrication. She currently works as a massage therapist.  and So Jung Yoon won two sets in doubles, but Crescenta Valley of La Crescenta (12-7) couldn't overcome visiting Palm Desert (16-1) in a second-round match.

DIV. V

--Malibu 12, Western 6:Kelly Stewart, Dalya Perelman and Chelsea Mosser swept all nine singles sets, and Lisa Marie Kohrs and Casey Zweig won 6-1, 6-3, 6-0 in doubles for top-seeded Malibu (13-3), the defending champion, in a second-round win at Western of Anaheim (13-10).
